SAM ROSS WATERSPORTS

ABOUT SAM ROSS WATERSPORTS

Rare, strangely obsessed by Badgers, full of useless facts, over excited and fanatical about teaching windsurfing are how I normally get described. Here is how it started.

I first started windsurfing in 1997. After getting my first introduction to windsurfing from my Dad, and me dropping a mast on his head we decided to seek professional help.

I first got into windsurfing at Outdoor Adventure in Cornwall under the guidance of Rachel Med who was an incredible instructor. Her passion and expertise for the sport were the spark that began my windsurfing career.

Despite not being that good I was hooked on the sport by those who taught me and, as family holidays became windsurfing based my ability slowly caught up with my enthusiasm.I went on holiday with my family to Bitez with Neilson in 1998 and 1999, getting into the footstraps and really feeling that first buzz. International rowing commitments kept me out the sport for a couple of years until in 2001where I trained in Greece as an instructor.

Exeter University gave me plenty of time to windsurf and working at FC watersports in the holidays gave me the first introduction to the industry in 2002. Since 2003 I have mostly worked overseas for Neilson where I have been an instructor, centre manager and instructor trainer. I only did one full season as an instructor for Neilson when I then became a centre manager. I then opened and ran a new centre for Neilson after which I moved onto run and create the Neilson Academy.

I am one of the UK’s most qualified and experienced Windsurf coaches. I am one of only a few RYA Advanced Plus Trainers in the UK and Also a Race coach Tutor. I’ve also been a member of the RYA training team and tested for both the Uk’s Windsurfing Magazines. In the last few years I’ve also become the brand manager for Severne Sails in the UK, as well as the Lead coach for the RYA Junior Windsurfing programs.

My focus is on spending as much time on the water as possible, helping those who want to progress with their personal and professional development. If you are interested in any aspect of the sport and want me to help you progress your personal or professional development, whether company or individual, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
